If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been strictly team natural nails for years. Ever since a nightmare acrylic incident a few years back, I swore off salon acrylics for good and stuck to the old tried and true regular polish.

Lately, though, I’ve been craving a fresh, long, salon-style set. Something about having a crisp manicure with a little added length gives me an instant confidence boost and makes me feel just a little bit more put together!

Obviously, I’m not going back to acrylics but, for fall, I decided to try press-ons for the first time in years. I picked up three fall sets from Olive & June (two in Medium length and one in Short). Here is my complete, honest review on application, longevity, damage, and removal!

The Kit & Sizing Each Olive & June press-on kit comes with everything you need to get started:

- A prep pad

- A mini nail file

- A cuticle stick

- A mini tube of nail glue

- Plenty of nails across a wide range of sizes

Sizing

Sizing was insanely easy! They give you so many options that there is guaranteed to be a set in there that looks like a natural fit for your nail beds. They lay flat and didn't look thick or bulky whatsoever! I was pleasantly surprised!

Quick Tip

I actually bought an extra bottle of their standalone glue just in case, but I didn't even need it, the mini glue provided in the box was more than enough!

Application And Glue

If you want your press-ons to last 5–14 days without popping off or lifting at the edges, nail prep is so important! Taking an extra five minutes to do a little bit of extra prep on your natural nail bed makes all the difference in how strong the glue holds!

1. Shape & Gentle Buffing

Start with clean, bare nails. Use a nail file to trim and shape your natural nails so they don't stick out from under the press-ons. Next, take a gentle buffer or fine file to lightly buff the surface of your natural nail bed

What does this do?

Buffing removes the natural shine and smooth oils from your nail, giving the glue a slightly textured surface to grip onto.

2. Push Back & Trim Cuticles

Apply a cuticle softer and gently push back your cuticles using the cuticle stick or using your favorite cuticle tools and carefully trim away any excess dead skin.

What does this do?

This makes sure that the press-on nail sticks directly to your natural nail plate, not your cuticle or surrounding skin. If glue or the fake nail rests on top of your cuticle, air will get trapped underneath and cause the nail to pop off prematurely!

3. Dehydrate with the Prep Pad

Swipe each nail bed thoroughly with the alcohol prep pad included in the Olive & June kit.

What does this do?

This removes any leftover dust, debris, or natural oils from filing and trimming. Once you wipe them, avoid touching your hair, face, or anything oily before applying the nails.

4. Size & Lay Out Your Nails

Before opening the glue, match up all 10 fingers with the correct size press-on nail from the kit.

Olive & June gives you so many sizes that finding a perfect fit is easy!

Quick Tip:

If you're stuck between two sizes, always size it down! A nail that is slightly too large will press into your skin or cuticle line, causing discomfort and early lifting. A smaller nail sits flat and looks much more natural.

Hold the press-on at a 45-degree angle starting right at the cuticle line, then press down flat onto the nail bed.

Hold firm pressure for 30 seconds per finger to ensure no air bubbles are trapped underneath.

This Olive & June glue is the strongest press-on glue I have ever used. Make sure you wait 1 hour to wash your hands or apply any cuticle oil to make sure the glue is able to properly seal!

Wear Test &

Daily Life

I wore my set for 7+ days, and honestly, they probably could have easily lasted the full 14-day mark! I personally like switching up my nails fairly often, so 7 days was my personal sweet spot!

Here’s how they held up:

Work & Typing: I type for the majority of the day for work, and they did not budge or snag.

Chores & Daily Tasks: I did dishes, cooked, and didn't hold back or baby my hands at all.

Accident-Prone Tested: As a low-key accident-prone person, I even stubbed my hands a few times, they didn’t budge!

Honestly, even after multiple days of cuticle growth, people thought I had gone to the nail salon for a fresh set of acrylics. I couldn't even tell I was wearing press-ons!

The Removal Process (& What Not To Do!)

This was definitely a learning curve for me! Removal is where I realized I need to tweak how I go about it next time.

On my first hand I did a water soak for 20 mins:

I started by soaking my hand in warm water for 20 minutes, but they were still stuck on super strong and not ready to come off. So I followed up with soaking them in acetone for about 1-2 min then they popped right off.

On my left hand I decided since the acetone one worked so well I would just use that method:

This was my preferred removal method! It left no damage on my nails. This method took about 20 min for the nails to fully dissolve. Be aware that this will leave your nails dehydrated, and they will be in desperate need of a good cuticle oil and hydration routine after taking them off!

Recovery Routine

Whenever you apply adhesive or use drying agents like acetone, a little nail strain is inevitable. To restore my natural nails after taking them off:

- I took a full break for a day or two to let my natural nails breathe.

- I applied generous amounts of

cuticle oil

- I treated my nails with the Manicurist Active line to nourish and strengthen the nail beds!

Within a day or two, my nails were right back to their normal, healthy state!

Medium vs. Short: Which Should I Get?

I tried both Medium and Short lengths:

The Medium Length is Beautiful for photos and special occasions, but a bit longer than what I normally wear day-to-day.

The Short Length Is My absolute winner! The short length was super comfortable, practical for my daily life, and still gave that clean, polished manicure look. Moving forward, I’ll be ordering the Short length every time!

Final Thoughts

At around $10 a set (and they almost always have sales or coupons going!), you genuinely cannot beat the price point. So if you haven't guessed they are so worth the hype! Whether you need a quick manicure for an upcoming event, want to save money instead of paying salon prices for acrylics, or just want to feel put together for a week, these are an absolute budget game-changer.

Nail Prep is Key: Take your time trimming cuticles and lightly filing/cleaning your nail bed before applying so the adhesive sticks properly.

Don't Rush Removal: Invest in a dedicated press-on removal solution instead of pure acetone so you don't ruin the nails or strip your natural nail beds.

Give Them a Rest: Don't slap on a new set immediately after taking one off! Give your nails a few days to breathe, hydrate with cuticle oil, and use a treatment formula to keep your natural nails strong underneath.

Until next time,

Jamie
